Job Description

The full-time multimedia producer will create and manage multimedia content for NASA space and the Hubble Space Telescope. The producer will work with a team of science writers, animators, data visualizers, and social media managers to create a wide array of multimedia products for diverse audiences.  This position will also assist the Lead Producer for the Hubble Telescope through video editing, producing, and archiving. 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Producing and editing outreach videos for displays, exhibits, and online streams (30%).
  • Assisting lead producer in recording interviews, logging footage, video editing, and processing final products for distribution (30%).
  • Supporting preservation work on the Hubble video archive - logging, tagging, entering metadata, ingesting footage, and uploading content to online video archives (40%).
  • Other job related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

 

Education:      

  • Must have Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, video, filmmaking, science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in video or multimedia production, science communication or multimedia.
  • Completed some coursework in astronomy and planetary science, desired.
  • Experience or education in digital archiving, library sciences, or media asset management, desired.
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects and motion graphics, desired.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Versatile video production skills: video editing, post production, camera operation, script and project development, and ability to format content for web and social media distribution.
  • Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
  • Familiarity with Adobe suite of creative software.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Interest in science or astrophysics.
  • Unlimited patience and open to construct criticism.

Working Conditions:

Work will be performed in an office or computer lab environment.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; talk or hear.  Keyboarding for large time spans each day may be a significant part of this position.
